Known as a 'Kudou' or 'Forowa' - created for the storage of gold dust. Hand raised and formed from beaten sheet brass, the assembly joining neatly brass riveted. The box takes the form of a raised naive circular hut, resting upon an integral inset foot section. The stepped and tapering cover neatly press mounts in position. The surface is finished with chiseled decoration - the decoration incorporating stylised geometric motifs. This example includes a previous owner's collection label, (though the label gives an incorrect Benin origin). Size: overall height - 4 3/4" (121mm), max diameter - 3 1/2' (90mm). Weight - 184 grams Condition: Very Good. No repairs, surface marks etc. Signs of genuine age and usage. Fine natural colour and patina. Internal Ref: TAW 1075
