Forged and shaped from sections of hammered steel, incorporating a fine 'tool' steel blade. The forged tripod support is mounted with the shaped cutter head - neatly brazed into position. The blade is embellished with chiseled decoration, forming a stylised bid's head to both faces. Selectively applied gilt-work further embellishes the decoration. The head form is very much in the manner of the long handled executioner's knife - this example may well have been salvaged from such a knife and incorporated into this unusual boti. One blade face incorporates the inscribed initials "R.B.D." - see images. Size: overall length - 20 1/2" (520mm), height - 11 3/8" (289mm). Weight - 828 grams. Condition: Very Good. Signs of genuine age and usage. No repairs. Natural colour and patina. Internal Ref: IHJB 1101
