Hand worked from a section of natural bovine horn, shaped and polished and incorporating a curving slot type opening to the central area - this example is mounted with a 'rose-bowl' style silver grill, rather than the more usual plain opening. A worked area to the lower portion of the horn forms an 'flattened' oval foot, allowing the vase to stand in a stable manner. Hand raised and seamed silver hollow-work embellishments form the head and tail of the fish - a pair of applied fins are mounted either side of the head. The silver is finished with chased and embossed detailing, scales and features - see images. Image 9, details the Malay Arabic Kelantan maker's mark applied to the lower area of the silver head. Size: max length - 14 3/4" (375mm). Weight - 323 grams. Condition - Very Good. No dents or cracks - no repairs. Minor surface marks etc. associated with usage. The decoration remains, "Sharp & Crisp". Internal Ref: SEA 1069
