Pitcairn Island - dating from the first quarter of the 20th century. Turned and hand carved from two sections of Miro-wood timber, (Thespesia Populnea) - the timber gathered from nearby Henderson Island. Both examples incorporate the form of a human hand gripping the inverted campana form vase. The base rims are single letter punch inscribed, "A SOUVENIR FROM PITCAIRN ISLAND. MADE BY WILES WARREN". The second inscribed, "A SOUVENIR FROM PITCAIRN ISLAND". One vase has retained a previous owner's paper collection label - image 10. Height(s) - 8 1/2" (216mm), 8 3/8" (213mm). Weight(s) - 275 grams, 236 grams. Condition - Good. Chips to the top areas of the top rims. No restoration. Fine natural colour and patina. Internal Ref: O 1002
