Description

Constructed from split rattan, coated with dense applications of black lac, creating a very even and 'smooth' surface. The bowl is twelve sided, centrally waisted and raised upon an integral polygonal pedestal.
The surface is superbly inlaid with highly intricate sections of mother-of pearl - shaped, polished and applied. The embellishment is of floral form, set within complex bands of horizontal decoration. A coating of clear shellac gives an almost 'glass-like' appearance.
Internally, the surface is finished with a layer of dense cinnabar red lacquer.
Height - 9 7/8" ((252mm), max width - 18 3/4" (476mm).
Weight -2,010 grams.
Condition - Good. Some chipping at the rim and surface marks internally - all constant with genuine age and usage.
Internal Ref: SBT 1010
