Description

Cast using the 'lost wax' process from copper alloy, (brass), this example hand tooled and finished. Shakyamuni is depicted seated above an integral shaped plinth - "Calling the Earth to Witness" in Mudra. The face is inset with hard stone eyes, (the left eye has been chipped at some time). Traces of an infil of black lac gives definition to the coiffeur.
Internally, the figure has retained much of the original clay mould core - see final images.
The Buddha is of 'Mandalay' form , the natural patina to the brass untouched, (not t be confused with the darker appearance of bronze castings). See item# 1932,0714.1 within the British Museum collection for a very similar example.
Overall height - 8 3/8" (213mm).
Weight - 1806 grams
Condition - Good: Rubbing and surface marks, (consistent with genuine age and usage). No repairs. Natural colour and patina.
Internal Ref: SBT 1018
