Description

A high grade, (unmarked*), European silver slice.
The silver head tapers in form and is of slightly concave profile. Neoclassical bright-cut chiseled decoration and saw cut fret-work embellish the front face. An applied lyre form ornament is riveted at the base of the blade - the lyre supported by a pair of stylised dolphins, (see images).
The shaped and tanged shaft is mouthed with a hand tooled natural mother-of pearl handle. The natural shell material is finished with fluting to the top and underside - the decoration very much in the manner of a feather.
The original owner's initials, "MH" are engraved to the otherwise plain reverse of the blade.
Length - 9 3/4"
Total weight - 68.0 grams.
* Tested high grade silver.
Condition: Very Good. An old repair to the mother-of-pearl grip, (probably performed by the maker, in order to remove a flaw to the shell material, not spoiling the appearance, see images). No dents or cracks to the silver and no repairs - the decoration 'sharp & crisp'.
Internal Ref: S 1024
