Of baluster form, the cast metal alloy huqqa base rests upon an integral flaring circular foot. The waisted neck incorporates a narrow tapering collar, with a small raised ring embellishment below. The surface is finely inlaid with complex repeating floral motifs - two pairs of birds are positioned at opposing positions at the broader region. The inlay is set within a dark grey ground colour to the metal surface. An example of similar form and period is held within the V&A collection - see: Huqqa base, ca. 1850 (made). Domestic, bidri, Bidar, c1851. Museum Number 139-1852. Overall height - 9 1/16" (230mm). Weight - 673 grams. Condition: Good. No cracks or major dents. Two small areas of inlay lost at the broadest area, (see final two images). Minor surface marks etc. associated with age and usage. No repairs. Fine natural colour and patina. Internal Ref: IA 1022
