Description

Carved and shaped from a dried and hollowed calabash* gourd, the natural growth of the gourd has proven ideal in creating vessels for many hundreds, (if not thousands), of years.
This fine example is embellished with turned and extremely finely carved geometric decoration. The broad opening has been internally tooled to form a narrow neck, into which the original carved native timber stopper locates.
*Known as a 'bottle gourd' or 'calabash', this type of gourd is the fruit of the Lagenaria Siceraria plant.
Overall height - 12" (305mm).
Weight - 183 grams.
Condition: Very Good. No cracks or chips. Signs of genuine age. Natural colour and patina.
