Forged and shaped from two sections of wrought steel - the precision hammer-work carried out by a skilled blacksmith, (the work very much in the manner of a an armourer). Both examples incorporate a pair of 'hooded' hawk embellishments to the upper and lower extremes. A central handle shaft piercing is flanked by a pair of mounting holes - the holes punched through by the maker, (not drilled). The concave reverse faces have retained the original planishing impressions of the blacksmith's hammer - see images. Size: overall height(s) - 10 1/2" (262mm). max width(s) - 1 11/16" (43mm).
