Hand raised and worked from heavy gauge beaten sheet copper - this good this example dates from the early 17th century - during the Safavid dynasty. The rim is rolled and swaged creating a rigid construction. The base is constructed with an inset 'castle' seamed central panel. The surface is embellished with a band of finely chiseled foliate decoration. Simple turned reeded decoration encircles the central area. A quatrefoil shaped cartouche is positioned centrally - see images. The surface has retained the original bright tinned finish. Size: overall diameter - 9 5/16" (237mm), height - 5 3/4" (146mm). Weight: 1190 grams. Condition: Good. No major dents. Surface marks etc. consistent with genuine age and usage. Areas of old repair-work to the base - also consistent with age and usage.
