Description

This unusual example is ogee 'shield' form in section and gently tapers from the cover face to the base panel. A recessed lip to the box opening locates the cover into position - closing to form a 'flush' appearance. This example has retained the the original tin-plate lining - see images.
The surface is embellished with highly complex and intricate gilt and polychrome lacquer decoration, incorporating the traditional 'mir' or 'boteh' motif. Additional images detail the maker's signature to the base, (unclear).
Size: length: 4 7/8" (124mm), width - 3 7/8" (98mm), height - 3 1/4" (82mm).
Weight: 218 grams.
Condition: Very Good. Very minor age related wear - consistent with usage and handling over a considerable period. No repairs. Fine natural colour and patina - the pigments remaining strong and vibrant.
