Description

Hand constructed from sections of native timber, this unusual and complete set are of graduated form, the largest example neatly encloses the next in size, with the third next locating within and so on...... Finally closing to a complete assemblage. A recessed lip to the box openings locates the corresponding cover into position - closing to form a 'flush' appearance. The whole group stacking in the manner of the Russian 'Babushka' dolls.
The surfaces are embellished with highly complex and intricate gilt and polychrome lacquer decoration, incorporating many traditional motifs.
Size, (largest outer box): length: 8 3/8" (213mm), width - 6 1/8" (155mm), height - 4 7/8" (124mm).
Total weight: 1312 grams.
Condition: Very Good. Minor age related wear - consistent with usage and handling over a considerable period. No repairs. Fine natural colour and patina - the pigments remaining strong and vibrant.
