Description

Chinese, Qing dynasty - dating from the 19th century.
A large wheel thrown baluster form jar, resting on a raised integral collet type foot. A circular recess at the opening locates the original turned, carved and pierced hardwood cover.
The surface is embellished with polychrome enamelled decoration. Two shaped vignettes each depict an Immortal, accompanied by a sage, riding a stylised dragon. Floral forms, character motifs and scrollwork embellish the remaining surfaces.
This example is unmarked to the base, (final image).
Overall height - 8 3/8" (213mm), max diameter - 9" (228mm).
Total weight - 2,128 grams.
Condition: Jar - Very Good. No cracks or chips - no repairs. Minor 'rubbing' to the enamelling.
Condition: Cover - Good. Minor chips to the rim, (underside). No repairs. Fine natural colour and patina.
