Description

The carriage incorporates a hinged and removable silver canopy to the area above the horse. With rotating spoked wheels and complex detailing, the carriage is fitted with a hinged panel below the canopy, allowing access to the interior - see images. The horse is also finely detailed and incorporates twisted silver wire couplings.
Engraved 'shou' motifs embellish the carriage roof and canopy face.
The panel forming the carriage floor is struck with the Chinese character Hallmark - image 2. The mark appears to be that of the maker - Tu Mao Xing (Jiujiang, Jiangxi) Circa 1880 - 1930. However, the maker Kwong Man Shing, often used a similar mark and was active in both Hong Kong and Canton from about 1880 to 1920. This maker was renowned for miniatures and novelty pieces.
Length - 4 7/8" (124mm).
Total weight - 1.95oz Troy, (60.7 grams).
Condition: Good. Minor bruises and surface marks - consistent with age and usage. No repairs. Natural colour and patina.
