Hand constructed from wrought elements of silver by the Miao people*, these fine examples are much larger in size than generally found. Coiled and hinged elements incorporate traditional engraved fish embellishment to the central panels. Provenance: Collected in northern Thailand by the previous owner during a visit to the region in the mid 20th century. *The Miao people live primarily in the southern mountains of China, (in the provinces of Guizhou, Hunan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hainan, Guangdong, and Hubei). Sub-groups of the Miao, most notably the Hmong people, have migrated from China into Southeast Asia (northern Vietnam, Laos, Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand). Overall height(s) - 7" (178mm).
