Description

Dating from the first half of the 19th Century.
The vessel has been hand raised and formed from heavy gauge beaten sheet copper. Tapering in form, the teapot is horizontally 'crimp' jointed and brazed - the first horizontal seam positioned below the shoulder, with the second positioned above the plain foot. The applied scrolling spout is panelled in form, rising from the shoulder. Of strap form, the copper handle is tightly riveted in position and incorporates raised embellishment at the edges.
The stepped copper cover neatly locates within the top opening to the vessel - held by a recessed collet type lip. A hand braided silver chain, (original), complete with central 'swivel' ,links the cover to a lug type mounting at the handle. Sections of worked and applied silver embellish the cover, incorporating a silver 'lotus bud' type knop.
The waisted neck and inner shoulder are embellished with tooled and embossed silver mounts - silver ornamentation is all incorporated to the spout and at the base of the handle.
Internally, the teapot is fully tinned.
Height - 11 3/4" (324mm).
Weight - 1,421 grams.
Condition - Good. Signs or genuine age and usage, resulting in surface marks and small bruises, (untouched). Also, a small section of silver lost at the embellishment to the spout opening, (see final image). Traces of an old shellac finish. No signs of recent repair work. Natural colour and patina.
