Description
Dating from the second half of the 19th Century.
The vessel has been skilfully hand raised and formed from beaten sheet copper - the base formed by a precisely worked recessed circular copper closure. A brazed and burnished seam to the waisted neck is clearly visible.
The applied scrolling silver spout is panelled in form, rising from the shoulder and incorporating a brass lip at the opening. Of centrally ridged hollow form, the silver handle is tightly riveted in position.
The convex cover neatly locates within the top opening to the vessel - held by a recessed collet type lip. A hand braided silver chain, (original), complete with central 'swivel', links the cover to a corresponding hinged lug type mounting at the handle. An unusual stone bead, (possibly ceramic - not coral), completes the swivel joint. Sections of worked and applied silver embellish the cover, incorporating a silver 'lotus bud' type knop.
The waisted neck, cover and opening rims, also the shoulder are embellished with complexly tooled and embossed silver mounts - silver ornamentation is all incorporated to the base of the spout.
Internally, the teapot is fully tinned.
Height - 10 5/8" (270mm).
Weight - 932 grams.
Condition: Good. Signs or genuine age and usage, resulting in minor surface marks and small bruises, (untouched). Fine natural colour and patina.
Internal Ref: H 1013
