Description
Hand raised and finished, the bowl is of slightly baluster appearance and incorporates a rolled and swaged rim, creating a rigid form. The surface is superbly finished with chased and embossed decoration. The decoration takes the form of scenes from the "Jataka Tales", (former lives of the Buddha) . Bands of foliate scrollwork are positioned above and below the figurative decoration.The base is incised with a fine resplendent peacock - this symbology is derived from the official emblem of the Konbaung kings and was adopted by several of the finest silversmiths in the lower Burma regions.
Height - 3 3/8" (86mm), max diameter - 6 1/8" (156mm).
Weight - 12.45oz Troy, (387.2 grams).
Condition: Very Good. No dents or cracks. No repair work. Minor surface marks and rubbing, (consistent with genuine age and usage). Extremely good colour and patina, (the interior is of natural appearance - not recently cleaned or polished).
