Description
Of tapering form, hand raised and worked from elements of beaten sheet copper and cast brass. The vessel rests upon a simple tripod foot. A scrolling 'V' section spout incorporates a hinged cover at the opening. The cast brass handle takes the form of a highly stylised dragon - the upper handle extreme forms the cover hinge fulcrum. The cover is of convex form and incorporates a circular central opening. The central opening was originally enclosed by a secondary hinged cover, (now missing). This secondary cover closed over an internal 'flue' - the flue rising from the brazier compartment to the pierced base surround. A hinged and shaped shutter gives access to the brazier compartment from below.Internally, the vessel is fully tinned.
The surface is embellished with bands of complex chiseled foliate decoration - this tooled relief work infilled with back lac, creating a contrasting appearance.
Height - 9 1/2" (241mm).
Weight - 2,073 grams.
Condition: Good. Secondary cover missing, (as described). No major dents and no cracks. No evidence of repair work. Fine natural colour and patina.
