Description
This fine pair of toasting forks are of Indian colonial, possibly Scottish provincial, origin and date to around 1840, (similar examples by the maker Peter Orr, (Madras, India), have been noted.Created from a pair of natural Asian Black Buck horns - trimmed and polished. Applied elements of hand worked high grade silver, (consistent with Sterling), form caps to the grip areas - press mounted and pinned. The long and tapering twin tinned silver heads are socketed and tightly mounted at the horn tips, (also silver pinned through - original).
No maker's mark found - nice quality throughout.
Overall length - 19 1/2" (495mm).
Combined weight - 435 grams.
Condition: Very Good. Minor surface marks etc. associated with usage. Fine natural colour.
